LAGRANGE TWP. — A rash of thefts in Grafton, LaGrange, Eaton Township and LaGrange Township has prompted a local resident to put up a $5,000 reward in order to bust the person who stole his all-terrain vehicle.

Brad Setliff placed signs in the front yard of his Wheeler Road home that read “Reward for Thieves Working Our Neighborhood.”
“I still haven’t cooled down,” said Setliff, who had a six-wheel Cub Cadet ATV, valued at $10,000, taken Friday morning.

Another ATV that also was taken from Setliff on Friday was found after he followed its tracks in the dew.
Sheriff’s Capt. Richard Resendez said there has been a rash of thefts in the area, although a report was not immediately available on Setliff’s incident.

Setliff said he believes at least two people were involved because the heavy ATVs were pushed out of his barn to the edge of the property before they were started.

Aside from the ATV theft, someone also tried to hotwire a golf cart outside a Parsons Road residence Friday.
And Nick Healy, who works with Setliff, said someone took a mini-motorcycle worth $500 from the bed of his truck at his home on Parsons Road near Indian Hollow Road about a week ago.

Resendez recommended that residents lock their vehicles, homes, barns and sheds and urged anyone with information about the thefts to contact Lorain County sheriff’s Sgt. Don Barker at (440) 329-3708.

“I grew up here, and it used to be you could leave your doors unlocked,” Healy said. “The whole neighborhood has got to look out for each other now.”
