Shuttered downtown eatery gets a Pulse

ELYRIA - A new cafe in downtown Elyria will dish out some healthy options when it opens in January.
Pulse Cafe will feature a menu containing 30 different styles of health-inspired sandwiches and wraps and as many varieties of smoothies and juices to wash them all down.
David Andras, owner of Pulse, has a background full of food endeavors, which include time spent as a food and beverage director for a hotel and owning two franchises in Cleveland.
When he moved on to sell his interests and become a personal trainer at Bally’s Total Fitness, he said, the idea for his latest venture came calling.
“I wasn’t always eating the greatest, but then I learned a lot about nutrition and supplements,” he said. “I thought I could help create a healthy way of eating for others.”
Andras, 30, of North Ridgeville, grew up in Elyria and is a 1995 graduate of Elyria High School.
He said Pulse Cafe will not only replace the Court Street Cafe at Middle Avenue and Second Street, which closed in July, but it will also bring a professional look and casual feeling downtown.
Couches, leather chairs and Wi-Fi accessibility will be in the rear, while the tables and chairs expected in a sit-down eatery will be toward the front.
Andras said meals will be served from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and cost between $6 and $7 a plate. Multivitamins and energy and protein bars also will be sold, and the cafe will offer catering and delivery options.
Andras said he hoped Pulse Cafe, and its customers, would stick around for a long time.
“It’s about making people feel relaxed while they’re eating, reading or doing business,” Andras said.
