Avon Lake gets national ranking

NorthCoastNOW

Avon Lake High School has been named one of the top high schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.

The magazine lists the school as one of the top 505 of 18,790 high schools analyzed in a recent study.

That puts the Shoremen in the top 3 percent in the 40 states where U.S. News & World Report was given access to education records.

In Ohio, only 34 high schools placed among the top 505. Avon Lake was the only one in Lorain County to be recognized.

The rankings were based on how students perform on state tests, how disadvantaged students do and the quality of college-level courses.
