AMHERST — Would-be Good Samaritan Donald Gregg waved off the orders of an Amherst police officer before grabbing a gun from a man who was holding it on a woman.
Then he ran toward the officer with the gun, and the officer fired at him.
The officer, Devin Small, fired at him because he was in fear for his life,
The video shows Gregg, a
29-year-old Vermilion man, ignoring police orders, while emphatically pointing to the officers surrounding the man whose gun he had taken.
It was Gregg who first alerted police to a volatile domestic situation involving a gun, but then he attempted to diffuse the situation himself.
When he chose to grab the gun and run toward police, Kucirek said, the officer had a split-second to defend himself.
“(The video) is a clear picture for us that even had the officer struck the citizen, he would’ve been cleared,” Kucirek said.
The officer, Kucirek said, “acted reasonably and within policy and procedure.”
The bullet that missed Gregg struck a street sign. No one was hurt in the incident.

This police video should be the end of the discussion on this matter. “Good Samaritan” did a great job except for one thing. HE RAN TOWARDS THE OFFICER WITH GUN IN HAND! Everyone involved in this scene should thank the Lord that nobody was killed. Did you expect the officer to wait until he pulled the trigger? Great handling of a scary situation by Amherst Police.

Just another reason why redneck, yahoo, tough guy, punk A$$, uneducated morons should not be permitted to carry concealed weapons.

Someone needs target practice. I would dropped him one shot to kneecap he woulda been down, from there cuff n stuff him.

Redhead,
Being charged with carrying a concealed weapon, does not mean he had a permit for carrying a concealed weapon. One must attend and pass a training course, and it includes a background check. I am glad my household has a concealed weapons permit. Criminals usually ignore those posted “NO GUNS ALLOWED” signs.

Banker, that is the most ridiculous comment I have read on here. I can assure you, without A LOT of luck, you would not have fired one round and struck the guy in the knee. I am sure you can hit your paper targets all day long but shooting a moving target which is charging you is a different story. So let’s say you do hit him in the knee. Now you have a ticked off, still armed, gunman. The police don’t shoot to wound. That’s why it’s called DEADLY force.

No matter what subject is being discussed, you can always count on the fact that THE BANKER will pop up sooner or later to add the most mind-numbingly idiotic comment imaginable!

The fact that you have resorted to threatening me leads me to believe that you are a 13 year old kid who is up way past his bedtime. You’re dad is going to be mad if he finds out you are using his computer.
