It appears a false Amber Alert is popping up on phones across the country.

The text message we got here reads, "AMBER ALERT! 2 little girls kidnapped around noon. Suspect is driving brown jeep liberty. License plate Ohio #436519 PLEASE FORWARD."

But a check with Lorain County 911 and the U.S. Justice Department’s Web site failed to turn up any active Amber Alerts.

It seems that nine hours ago, a very similar message was making its way across phones in Oregon.

That text message said, "AMBER ALERT! Albany area-2 little girls kidnapped around noon. Suspect is driving brown jeep liberty. Plate number 43 6519 please send to everyone."

State police in Oregon reportedly said the vehicle information matched an Amber Alert that was sent out in Montana Saturday but was subsequently canceled.

Apparently other states are getting the message, too.
