William A. “Bill” Ellison, 81, of Mount Ephraim, formerly of Lorain, passed away Saturday evening, April 19, 2008, at his residence. He was born January 23, 1927, in Gassaway, W.Va., son of the late Ed and Clara Greenleaf Ellison.

Bill served and protected his country in the Coast Guard and in the Army during World War II. He was employed at the Elyria Foundry as a millwright for more than 35 years prior to retirement. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and woodworking, especially making birdhouses for the family.

Surviving are his wife, Wilma F. (Henes) Ellison, whom he married September 4, 1948; four daughters, Carol Big of Elyria, Fran (Craig) Horvath of Lorain, Dorothy (Ed) Andolsek of Wakeman, Fay (Donald) Kiger of Lorain; two sons, Jim (Janice) Ellison of Vermilion, and Chuck Ellison of Mount Ephraim; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, Frank (Ruby) Ellison of Virginia, Richard Ellison of West Virginia and Fred (Esther) Ellison of Elyria; one sister, Emma Lou (Richard) Henes of Elyria; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by four brothers, John, Jack, Norvel and Orvel Ellison; two sisters, Mabel Moss and Lucille Tolley; son-in-law, Ernie Big; and great-granddaughter, Samantha Big.

Friends will be received 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at Chandler Funeral Home, 609 West St., Caldwell, a funeral service will follow at 4 p.m. Pastor Jim Garrett will officiate. In keeping with Bill’s wishes, a caring cremation will take place following the service.

The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Hospice of Guernsey Inc., P.O. Box 1165, Cambridge, OH 43725.
