It’s that time of year again.

Sure, it’s only May, but folks who regularly spend a week of their life each August at the Lorain County Fair know that it’s about this time every year that officials announce the fair’s featured performers.

On Thursday, they did just that — announcing a pretty darn good lineup for the year.

After all, who wouldn’t want to spend an evening listening to country music legend Vince Gill — an acoustic evening, at that — for a ticket price that won’t break the bank like the shows in Cleveland?

Gill is set to perform at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 18 — the first official night of the fair. Tickets are $30.

The next night, at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 19, country star Blake Shelton will perform with special guest Danielle Peck.

While Shelton and Peck don’t have Gill’s lengthy resume from the country music scene, they are building them.

In 2001, Shelton’s debut single, “Austin’’ stayed at No. 1 on Billboard’s singles chart for five weeks, tying the record with Billy Ray Cyrus for a debut single.

He’s toured with Toby Keith, and he also had a No. 1 for three weeks with “The Baby’’ in 2003.

Peck, meanwhile, is starting to generate her own buzz. She released a self-titled album in June 2006 and is known for the single, “Bad for Me.’’ She grew up in a family steeped in music, spending her formative years in Coshocton.

Tickets for those shows, and other grandstand events where seating is limited, will go on sale beginning at 8 a.m. at the secretary’s office inside the fairgrounds on May 10. Phone sales begin at 10 a.m. that same day. Call (440) 647-2781.

Tickets also may be ordered by mail or fax, but payment must be included with the order. Visa, MasterCard, check or money orders payable to the Lorain County Fair are accepted. Mail orders must include a self-addressed, stamped envelope.

Tickets for the Blake Shelton and Danielle Peck show will cost $25.
