Road projects slated around county
A few spots around the county will soon be covered in construction dust as the Ohio Department of Transportation gets down and dirty with road repairs.
- AMHERST: State Route 2 at the state Route 58 overpass will be reduced to one eastbound lane of traffic for bridge repair. Work will start 6 p.m. Friday and is projected to end 5 a.m. May 19.
- LORAIN: U.S. Route 6 just east of state Route 57 will have intermittent single-lane closures in each direction for bridge repair. The contractor may close one lane in each direction between 9 a.m. and
- 3 p.m. through May 31.
- SHEFFIELD: State Route 301 just south of state Route 611 is closed for bridge replacement through Friday. A detour takes drivers around the site to state Route 254.
County poles to be cleared of signs
ELYRIA — Signs and ads stuck to phone and electric poles around the county will be stripped starting June 1.
County Engineer Ken Carney said litter crews will remove all unauthorized signs and pick up trash and debris along county roads as a safety measure for drivers. Posters plastered up and down the poles can limit visibility and distract motorists, he said.
Anyone who has posted signs is asked to remove them as soon as possible to help out.
Panty raiders at mall take $990 in undies
ELYRIA — Three heavy-set women grabbed $990 worth of merchandise Thursday during a panty raid at Midway Mall, an Elyria police report said.
The women walked into Victoria’s Secret about 5:35 p.m. and started stuffing underpants in large bags, the report said. The manager told police that an employee at Lady Foot Locker spotted the thieves.
According to witnesses, the women ran toward Steve and Barry’s and made a clean getaway.
