Page, Wells earn wins at Lorain County Speedway
SOUTH AMHERST — The thunderstorms that pushed through northern Ohio on Friday may have muddied the infield at Lorain County Speedway, but they could not dampen the spirits of the fans and drivers Saturday night. The storms moved out in time for a full night of racing.
Elyria’s Rick Page outlasted a bevy of caution flags to win the E-Mod feature, while Grafton’s Charlie Wells won the Charger feature, Madison’s Chuck Phillips the Sportsman main and Shawn Winters the Street Stock feature
Once preliminary dashes and heats were completed, the
E-Mods, Sportsmen, Street Stocks and Chargers took turns on the track for divisional pursuits. These short races are elimination-style, meaning that once a car is passed, it must head back to the pits until one car is left or the required laps have been completed.
After Wooster’s Brad Copen (E-Mods), Philips, Elyria’s Steve Harmon (Street Stock) and Wells collected pursuit victories, the drivers shifted their focus to the feature races.
The caution flag flew nine times in the E-Mod feature, helping Page fend off the pack in his rearview mirror. On the last yellow, Columbia’s Tigh Shaffer had a run on second place, but did not complete the pass on top qualifier Matt Marlowe of Elyria in time and had to settle for third.
Wells won the 15-lap Charger race over Kevin McCall, while Phillips beat out Lorain’s Roland Sheppard in the Sportsmen feature. Winters drove his blue-and-white Street Stock to the win over Josh Way.
The Chargers ended the night with a 10-lap figure eight race through the infield which was won by McCall.

Jedrzejek returns
SANDUSKY — Tim Jedrzejek, who returned to racing fulltime this season after a three-year layoff, also returned to the winner’s circle Saturday night at Sandusky Speedway, winning the 30-lap feature in the Midwest Supermodified Association’s season debut at the track.
A violent crash three years ago almost ended Jedrzejek’s career, forcing him to sit out the last few seasons.
On Saturday the former MSA president proved that he has returned to full strength, leading the last 21 laps of the PPG Vibrance Collection MSA event in the Reed’s Salvage roadster.
He passed Bobby Dawson for second on lap nine before the field was tightened up by the race’s only caution flag.
On the restart, Jedrzejek rocketed around leader Denny Fisher and was never challenged. Fisher finished second, followed by Lorain’s Charlie Schultz, Dave Shullick Jr. of North Ridgeville and Dawson.
“I’ve been out for three years. Now we’ve got a good package as a team with a good car and an unbelievable group of guys behind me,” said Jedrzejek. “These guys wanted to win just as much as I did. I just wanted to know what it felt like to get back to victory lane. Tonight the stars were aligned for us.”
It was Jedrezejek’s seventh career feature win at Sandusky.
