Trucker hurt in crash with Lorain woman
MILAN TWP. — A Lorain woman turned into the path of an oncoming tractor-trailer about 12:50 p.m. Wednesday, and the semi driver is the one who was injured.
Juliette Blinco, 58, of Lorain, was driving a 1996 Jeep Cherokee north and tried to turn left on to Mason Road when she caused a three-car crash on U.S. Route 250, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol.
Blinco’s car pulled in front of a semi driven by 57-year-old Thomas L. Rusynyk of Monroeville, Lt. Darryl Edge of the patrol said.
The semi overturned and hit a 1995 Ford Explorer driven by Douglas Coletta, 52, of Norwalk, he said.
Blinco and Coletta didn’t suffer any major injuries, but Rusynyk was flown to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, where he was listed in stable condition.
The crash remains under investigation and no charges had been filed late Wednesday.
Deaf woman says man stole cell phone
LORAIN — A 44-year-old woman told police she was put in a choke hold Monday night by a man who stole her cell phone and ran away.
The woman, who is legally deaf, said she was walking about 8 p.m. near her Garden Avenue home when she was grabbed from behind by a black man, about 18 to 20 years old, wearing a white T-shirt and dark pants, a Lorain police report said.
The woman told investigators she didn’t hear the man sneaking up on her and the attack caught her completely by surprise. The report said she was thrown to the ground and the mugger grabbed at the cell phone case on her hip.
Then the man ran away, with his victim unable to follow because her leg was hurt when she fell, the report said.
Police said the woman had scrapes and dried blood on her left knee and elbow. She was taken to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The teen told police he was walking about 10:30 p.m. on Hancock Street when the men approached him from behind. One of the men put the gun to his back and said, “Put your hands up,” according to the report.
Instead, the boy turned around and grabbed the BB gun and his attacker pulled the trigger, he told police. The report said the attackers scattered when the weapon sounded.
The BB penetrated his skin, and the boy was later taken to Community Regional Medical Center. Two BBs had to be surgically removed, the report said.

Veterans to gather at Amherst memorial
AMHERST — Veterans will gather Saturday at the Lorain County Vietnam Veterans Memorial on North Lake Street to pay respects to men and women killed in the line of duty.
Don Attie, spokesman for the nonprofit group that opened the memorial plaza last summer, said a ceremony will be at 11 a.m. and the public is invited.
“This memorial has had a tremendous impact on the families across the county and a sense of closure. This has given them a tremendous amount of healing,” he said. “I’m still dazzled by how much this has affected everyone, and I feel very honored to have been a part of it.”
The event will feature Admiral King ROTC members, a statement by Amherst Mayor David Taylor and guest speaker Ron Ramsey, a Marine who served in Vietnam and now works with the Veterans Administration.
