To celebrate Independence Day, many communities have fireworks and other events planned.
Amherst
There are no fireworks this year.
Avon
There are no fireworks this year.
Avon Lake
Fireworks will be at dusk today at Weiss Field. In case of rain, fireworks will be Saturday.
Columbia Township
Fireworks were last week as part of the homecoming celebration.
Elyria
Fireworks will be 10 p.m. today in West Park, 1200 Foster Ave. Parking is available in West Park, as well as at Moen Corp. on Woodland Avenue between Lowell Street and Foster Avenue, and George’s Roofing on Lowell Street.
Grafton
Fireworks are 10 p.m. today at Willow Park. Beginning at 6 p.m., there will a party in the park.
LaGrange
There are no fireworks this year.
Lorain
The city’s annual fireworks display begins at 10 p.m. Friday from the pier at Spitzer Marina in Lorain. Beginning at 6 p.m., Big Bill’s DJ Service will play at Lakeside Landing; at Black River Landing, Off The Record will perform 6 to 10 p.m. The Charles Berry Bascule Bridge will be open to traffic throughout the holiday weekend but will close to vehicular traffic 8 p.m. to midnight Friday through Sunday.
North Ridgeville
The city will sponsor a fireworks display at dusk today at South Central Park on Bainbridge Road. A party in the park will be 4 to 7 p.m. Sponsored by the North Ridgeville Public Library. Refreshments will be available.
Oberlin
The fireworks display is at dusk Friday at the Hamilton Road Recreation Complex.
Sheffield
There are no fireworks this year.
Sheffield Lake
Fireworks are Friday, with Saturday as a rain date, as part of the city’s annual Community Days gala. The events will be at Shoreway Shopping Center, and there will be a parade at 7 p.m. Thursday and a live band performing Friday and Saturday.
Vermilion
There are no fireworks this year.
Wellington
The village will host a celebration in the park, which kicks off today with an ice cream social and concert at Town Hall, followed by fireworks at dusk at Lorain County Fairgrounds. Rain date is Sunday
Activities begin at 11:30 a.m. Friday on the lawn at Town Hall with a patriotic parade led by Spirit of ’76 Trio.
A flag-raising will take place at 2 p.m. Friday.
A car and bike show will take place at the Eagles Hall on North Main Street 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday.
