The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present. Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

Alfred Meek Jr., 80, passed away Thursday, May 24, 2007, at the Broadview Multi-Care Nursing Home in Parma following a lengthy illness. He was born in Cleveland and lived there for many years. He then lived in North Ridgeville from 1989 to 2006. Mr. Meeks was a veteran and served in the US Navy from 1944 to 1946 and then in the US Army from 1946 to 1948. He was employed as a security guard for many years, working at the Cleveland Metropolitan Housing Authority, several Cleveland area hospitals and spending the last 10 years of his career as a security guard at Parmadale, St. Anthony’s Home for Children in Parma. He retired in 1989. He was a former member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Cleveland. He enjoyed fishing and baseball.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Evelyn (nee Herman) of Cleveland; four daughters, Deborah Shumney (John) of Cleveland, Mary Wagoner of SC, Chris Elshaw (Keith) of Euclid and Evelyn Markuz (Mike) of Mentor; two sons, David of South Carolina and Mike (Lori) of Garfield Heights; 19 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren (and one on the way); and one sister, Barbara Whetzel of North Olmsted.
He was preceded in death by his parents Alfred Meek Sr. and Delilah M Meek (nee Barnswell); three sisters, Mary Weihrouch, Eileen Day and Shirley Arndt; and two brothers, Elmer and Eddie Meek.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 P.M. Tuesday, at the Liston Funeral Home, 36403 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville, where services will be at 8 P.M. with the Rev. Chuck Behrens officiating. Members from VFW Post #9871 in North Ridgeville will also conduct military honors at the funeral service. Burial will be private at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon.
