The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present. Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

Vera Mae Hart (nee Schubert), 82, a resident of Amherst Township, passed away Monday, May 28, 2007 at EMH Regional Medical Center in Elyria. She was born September 8, 1924 at the family property where she has lived her entire life. She attended the Oberlin School of Business. Vera was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ in Amherst where she served with the Circle Six Women’s Group. She also was a member of the Stone City Chapter of the Eastern Stars and served as past Worthy Matron in 1964.
Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Jeffrey (Barbara) Couture of St. Paul, MN; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Ralph Brice Hart (May 14, 2000); her son, James A. Hart (May 28, 1995); and by her parents, Mervin and Ethel Schubert (nee Berg).
Friends may call Friday, June 1, 2007, from 7 to 9 P.M. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst with an Eastern Star Service at 7 P.M. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 2, 2007 at 11 A.M. from the funeral home. The Rev. Mark Pemberton, pastor of St. Peter United Church of
Christ, will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Peter United Church of Christ, 582 Church St., Amherst 44001. Arrangements are being handled by the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst.
