Slain officer remembered

AVON — A steady line of friends, family and colleagues funneled into the doors of the Misencik Funeral Home in Avon on Wednesday to pay their respects to Cleveland Heights Police Officer Jason West.
West, 31, grew up in Avon and graduated from Avon High School in 1994. He had worked for the Avon Police Department as a dispatcher before joining the Cleveland Heights Police Department as an officer seven years ago.
He died Saturday, after being shot twice while on duty.
The memorial service was the first since West’s body was escorted back to Avon from the Cuyahoga County Coroner’s office by a 50-vehicle police motorcade Sunday.

Funeral procession
* A horse-drawn hearse will carry West’s body from Misencik Funeral Home, 36363 Detroit Road, Avon, to St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 2640 Stoney Ridge Road, Avon, for a private service at 11 a.m. today
* Residents wishing to show their support are asked to line the procession route prior to the church service at 11 a.m.
* Roadways are expected to be heavily congested with traffic throughout Thursday morning and afternoon.
* Motorists should take alternate routes around Stoney Ridge Road and Detroit Road between state Routes 83 and 611.
