The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present. Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

Alice May Stewart, 88, of Elyria, formerly of Norwood, LA, died May 31, 2007 at Southwest General Health Center in Middleburg Heights. She was born December 18, 1918 in Norwood, LA and has been a resident of Elyria since 1979. She worked out of her home as a beautician and a child daycare provider for many years. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Elyria where she served on the Usher Board and belonged to United Methodist Women. Mrs. Stewart was also a member of Pride of Norwood, #127 O.E.S. Norwood, LA and enjoyed attending Bible Studies, quilting, crocheting and singing.
She is survived by daughters, Alice W. (Utron) Crook of Elyria, Ella M. (Andrew) Giles of Toledo, Julia A. (James) Patton of Elyria; sons, Stafford (Jo-Ann) Stewart, Jr. and Jack L. Stewart, both of Elyria; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson; sister, Lillie Mae Richard of Port Arthur, TX; several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Stewart was preceded in death by her husband, Stafford W. Stewart in 1981; brothers, Thomas and John Carruth; father, Loveless Williams; mother, Julia Mayhall Carruth; and stepfather, Thomas Carruth, Sr.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 7 to 9 P.M. in the Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Ave. Elyria. Visitation will also be from 10 A.M. until a funeral service at 11 A.M. Wednesday at Asbury United Methodist Church, 1611 Middle Ave., Elyria. Pastor Carlton J. Shumate will officiate, and burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
