The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present. Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

Eugene R. Essex, 55, born in Elyria, died peacefully at his home in Florsheim, Germany following a long bout with cancer. Eugene was an inventor and world traveler having worked for leading technology companies such as Bose, Hyundai, and Sony Corporation.
Eugene was born on March 9, 1952 in Elyria, to Carl and Dorothy Essex (Klamut). He graduated from Midview High School in 1970 then served in the U.S. Army where he was posted in Korea. After completing his military service, Eugene began his career which enabled him to live in a number of interesting places including San Antonio, Dallas, Tuscon, Korea, Japan and Germany.
Eugene is survived by his wife, Beverley (Wisniski); his children, Ryan and Lauren; his mother, Dorothy; and his siblings, Sandra Bishop (Essex), Carl Essex, and Elizabeth McMullen (Essex).
Eugene was a devoted father and husband. He had a generous spirit and always put the wants and needs of others ahead of his own. As a result of Eugene’s global travels and kind spirit, he managed to touch the hearts of people all over the world. Gene was an avid photographer, audiophile and inventor. He developed these skills working along side his father in the 1960′s at the family’s electronics stores in Elyria and Lorain. Wherever Eugene went he found ways to give of himself through volunteer activities or simple acts of kindness to friends and neighbors.
Friends may call 4 to 8 P.M. Monday, June 4, 2007 at the Bauer-Laubenthal Funeral Home, Chestnut Ridge Road and State Route 57, Elyria, where closing prayers will be held at 10:15 A.M. Tuesday, June 5, 2007. A Funeral Mass will be at 11 A.M. Tuesday at St. Teresa of Avila Cemetery, 1878 Abbe Road, Sheffield Village, Fr. Robert Franco, pastor, will celebrate Mass. Burial at St. Teresa of Avila Cemetery.
