Elise M. Barnes

Elise M. Barnes (nee Guenther), 90, of Avon Lake, died Tuesday May, 1, 2007, at her home following a long illness. She was born March 25, 1917 in Columbus, NE, and prior to moving to Avon Lake, was a Elyria resident for 30 years. Mrs. Barnes was a Licensed Practical Nurse who worked at the former Shield’s Nursing Home in Lorain during the 1950′s, and also for Dr. L. B. Watson, D.O. in Avon, retiring in 1970. She was a past member of the Ladies Auxiliary, and also the Poppy Chairwoman of the VFW 1079 in Elyria. She enjoyed traveling, attending family reunions, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughters, Rose Mary F. Barron, of Arizona, and Geraldine Brundle, with whom she made her home; sons, Robert Newland, of MO, Lawrence Newland, of IL, and Edward Newland, of NE; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Helen Coffey, of NE, Wilma Krumland, of CO, Jeanette Holliday, of FL, and Betty Jean Krumland, of Spokane, WA.; brothers, Edward and Werner Guenther, both of NE, and Clarence Guenther, of Lorain.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Francis Newland; second husband, Roland "Buzz" Barnes; great-granddaughter, Caitlyn Thorton; sister, Mary Ann Orr; brothers, Ferdinand, Ted, and Fred Guenther.
There will be no visitation. A memorial Service will be held 12 Noon Saturday, at the Elyria First United Methodist Church, 312 3rd St., Elyria. The Rev. Lowell Schuefler will officiate. Burial will be at a later date at Roseland Cemetery, Columbus, NE. Memorial contributions can be made to the CHP Regional Foundation/New Life Hospice, 3700 Kolbe Rd., Lorain, OH 44053. Arrangements are under the direction of the Bauer-Laubenthal Funeral Home, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd., Elyria.
