Jani Mae Tomlin

The sun rose in Jani Mae (nee Ogle) Tomlin’s life on January 10, 1940 to the late King "Hardy" and Henri Mae Ogle. The sun set on her life Tuesday, May 1, 2007, at EMH Regional Health Care System. Jani was born in Lexington, KY, and the family relocated to OH in 1941. Jani attended Elyria Schools, and graduated from Elyria High School in 1957. She attended Central State University in Wilberforce, majoring in art and education. Jani worked for several years at the Elyria Neighborhood Center, where she was a mentor and guide to numerous young women of the community where she emphasized such attributes as respect for others, education, pride and self-confidence and the love of God. Jani was also a housing inspector for the city of Elyria for 20 years and retired in May of 1998. Jani was a devoted member of Cathedral Of Praise Church. She enjoyed working in the culinary department. Jani implemented a program that provided food-snacks for the diabetic members of the congregation to help sustain them between church services. She was Baptized in the name of Jesus Christ and received the gift of the Holy Ghost. Next to God, Jani was always an avid reader. She enjoyed cooking and collecting cookbooks, crocheting, and latch hooking. But her greatest joy was entertaining and spending time with her family and friends.
