The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present. Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

John S. Day (Scotty), 68, of North Ridgeville, passed away Monday, June 4, 2007 at EMH Regional Medical Center in Elyria following a lengthy illness. He was born in Winding Gulf, WV and was a North Ridgeville resident for 32 years. He had previously lived in Cleveland. He was a 1956 graduate of Stoco High School in Coal City, WV.
Mr. Day was a veteran and served in the U.S. Navy from October 1956 to January 1959 and then remained active in the reserves until 1962.
He was employed in the transportation department at LTV Steel in Cleveland for 40 years and retired in 1999. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, computer games and had great joy in spending time with his two granddaughters.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Betty L. (nee Vest); two daughters, Jean Webber (Larry) and Janet Lawson, both of Strongsville; two sons, John "Scott" of Elyria and James of North Ridgeville; two granddaughters, Fallon Such of North Ridgeville and Tracey Such of Clearwater, FL; two brothers, Charles Spencer (Joyce) of Aiken, NC and Clinton Spencer (Hazel) of Strongsville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Ethel Spencer; two sisters, Mosell Hale and Jeanette Bradford; and by six brothers, Allen, Ollie, Paul and Earl Spencer and Holmes and Eugene Day.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Thursday at the Liston Funeral Home, 36403 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville. Funeral Services will be Friday at 11 A.M. at the funeral home with Pastor Ray Carpenter and Pastor Jim Barta, both from Faith Baptist Temple in North Ridgeville, co-officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon. Memorials may be made to the North Ridgeville Fire Dept., Buffalo Fire Museum, 7090 Avon Belden Road, North Ridgeville, OH 44039.
