Richard Alan Kaiser

Richard Alan Kaiser, 59, of Vermilion, died Friday, June 1, 2007 at Community Health Partners in Lorain following a long illness. Born March 5, 1948 in Amherst, he had lived in Amherst, Elyria, Lorain, Kansas City and Vermilion.
A graduate of Amherst Marion L. Steele High School, he earned his bachelor of arts in social studies and mathematics from Ohio Northern University, while playing football, wrestling and running track in high school and football, and wrestling at ONU. He also was an Eagle Scout and had been a member of DeMolay.
He taught math at Midview Junior High School in Grafton and was an assistant varsity wrestling and a football coach at Midview High School and had served as a high school wrestling referee. He also was a substitute teacher in the Elyria, Lorain and Vermilion school systems.
He had worked as a restaurant manager in Kansas, for McDonald’s restaurant in Elyria and as a sales representative for investment and insurance agencies, including New York Life, Primerica and Capitol Choice, and as a tax preparation person.
He was a member of Vermilion Evangelical and Reformed Church and had been an active member of Parents Without Partners.
He is survived by his daughter, Colleen Upton of Heath; sons, Ryan Zalar of Newark, Pvt. Jason Kaiser of Johnstown and Sgt. Adam Kaiser of Fort Campbell, KY; seven grandchildren, Tristan R.W. Upton, Ashantae Renee Avery, Nakaela Brielle Avery; Kaitlyn Elizabeth Kaiser, Adam Joshua Daiser, Kyle
Scott Kaiser and Mason Alexander Kaiser; and sisters, Shannon Kaiser-Jewell and Gayle McMasters.
He was preceded in death by his father, John James Kaiser, in 1976; his mother, Corinne Lauretta Kaiser (nee Woodings) in 1996; and two granddaughters, Mary Lou Kaiser in 2004 and Kirsten Lauren Kaiser in 2006. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 9, 2007 at 11 A.M. at the Vermilion Evangelical and Reformed Church, Grand at Ohio Streets, Vermilion. Rev. William A. Seith will officiate.
