Nelson Eugene Woodards, better known as "Nick", 65, of Lansing, North Carolina, died Friday, June 8, 2007 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Mr. Woodards was born in West Virginia on December 28, 1941 to the late Thomas Jefferson and Chessie Mae Shepherd Woodards. He worked for United Steel Local 17 as an iron worker. Nick enjoyed boxing, UFC fighting, wrestling, woodworking, playing pool, playing rook and being with his family.
Mr. Woodards is survived by his first wife, Catherine Woodards Pavlik; his beloved one for life, Betty Miller; four daughters, Joyce Hopkins and Tina Shepherd, both of Elyria, Deanna Zaklan, of Akron, Heather Miller, of Delaware; three brothers, Jimmy Woodards, of Warrensville, NC, John Woodards and Bob Woodards, both of Louisiana; two sisters, Ann Wiley, of OH, Mae Sexton, of TN; four grandsons, William D. Hopkins II, Christopher Nelson Hopkins, Corey Andrew Akers, Austin Michael Shepherd; two granddaughters, Cricket Neal, Iry Neal; one great-granddaughter, Mackenzie D. Hopkins; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Woodards was preceded in death by a son, Robert Keith Woodards; a sister, Sue Nelson; and brothers, Red Woodards and Billy Jack Woodards.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 P.M. Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at Badger Funeral Home, 300 N. Main Street, W. Jefferson, NC. Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at New Home Baptist Church in Lansing, NC. Minister David Lyalls and Minister Danny Miller will officiate. Burial will follow in the Perry Cemetery.
