The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present.  Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

Mildred B. Carruthers

Mildred B. Carruthers, 100, of Sullivan, passed away Sunday, June 17, 2007, in Crystal Care Nursing Home, Ashland, after a short illness. She was born March 19, 1907 in Penfield, and had lived in Lorain County most of her life. She was a 1928 graduate of LaGrange High School which was a class of 13 members. She attended Kent State University and Memphis State University. Mrs. Carruthers taught in Pittsfield for three years, Wellington for 16 years and also in Tennessee for 11 years. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Sullivan and a member of Lorain County Retired Teachers Association. Mrs. Carruthers made her home with her granddaughter, Gail Pay.
She is survived by sons, Richard Carruthers of Wellington, and Kenneth Carruthers of Sparta, TN.; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Georgia Dietes of Sullivan and Audrey McRoberts of Spencer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, in 1984; son, Robert; daughter, Ruth Edwards; and sister, Bernice Kelly. Friends may call at the First Congregational Church of Sullivan on Wednesday from 11 A.M. until time of service at Noon. Rev. Don Farley, pastor, and Rev. Billy White of the Wellington Freewill Baptist Church will co-officiate.
Burial will be in LaGrange Cemetery, LaGrange. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Blackburn-Duke Funeral Home of Grafton handled arrangements.
