The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present.  Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

Ruford D. Freeman

Ruford D. Freeman
Ruford D. Freeman, 77, of Lorain died Friday morning, June 15, 2007 in his home following  a three month illness of cancer.  He was born on June 1, 1930 in Wise County, VA. Mr. Freeman lived in Wise County until 1952 when he moved to Lorain where he resided for the remainder of his life. He served in the Army of the United States receiving the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal, Japan. Mr. Freeman was a sheet metal worker for the Shepard Heating Company in Lorain. He was employed as a pipe fitter for twenty one years for the Ford Motor Company, Ohio Truck Plant in Avon Lake. He retired in 1995. Mr. Freeman was a member of the United Auto Workers Union, Local 2000 and a social member of the Knights of St. John, Lorain. He enjoyed visiting friends and family and watching television.
He is survived by his sons, Douglas E. (Faye) Freeman, Ruford D. (Carma) Freeman, Jr, both of Lorain, David (Dawn) Freeman of Amherst and John Michael (Janet) Freeman of Lorain; his daughters, Elizabeth E. (Tom) Szychowicz, Kathy S. (Randy) Crislip, both of Lorain and Louvernia Jean (Mark) Kohler of Amherst; his brothers, The Rev. Mr. Joe (Lois) Freeman of Indiana, Barney (Norma) Freeman of Kansas, OH, Ralph (Wilma) Freeman of Berlin Heights and The Rev. Mr. Darrell (Edna) Freeman of Pittsfield; his sisters, Christine Starnes of Vermilion, Jeanette (Hubert) Cooke, and Doris (Tommy) Wells, both of  TN; and numerous grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Jean (nee Gilliam) Freeman on June 9, 2001; his brothers, Curtis Freeman and Paul G. Freeman; his sister, Effie Freeman; and his parents, The Rev. Mr. Gordon and Martha Ellen (nee Bateman) Freeman.
Memorial services will be 11 A.M. Saturday, June 23, 2007 at the Christian Life Church, 3559 West Erie Avenue, Lorain, with The Rev. Mr. Wallace Justice, pastor of the Christian Life Church officiating.  Memorial contributions may be made to New Life Hospice, 3700 Kolbe Road, Lorain, OH 44053. The Walter A. Frey Funeral Home, 700 West Erie Avenue, Lorain is in charge of arrangements.
