The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present.  Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

Aura Earline Griggs

Aura Earline Griggs, 79, of Huntington Township, died June 21, 2007, at her home after a short illness. She was born December 22, 1927, in Hartfield Center, daughter of the late William and Anna (Ironmonger) VonSeggern. Mrs. Griggs was raised in Norwalk and was a resident of Huntington Township for 57 years. She graduated from Norwalk High School in 1946. Mrs. Griggs operated the Findley State Park Commissary from 1969-1978.
She was a 4-H advisor for the Huntington Sewing Susans for 20 years, a member of the Huntington Grange for over 50 years, and a member of the Farm Bureau. She was a charter member of the Huntington Historical Society and served as treasurer for several years. Mrs. Griggs was a member of the United Church of Huntington where she was very active and volunteered many hours in the kitchen preparing and serving meals for her church family. She enjoyed sewing, reading, and crocheting. Mrs. Griggs also made and altered wedding dresses for several women in the community.
She is survived by her four children; Diana Rowan, Charles Dean (Joy) Griggs, Kelly (Les) Sheppard, all of Huntington Township, and Michael Griggs of Brentwood CA; 10 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, George “Ray” VonSeggern of Norwalk; 2 sisters, Helen Poole of Norwalk and Thelma Kelley of Bucyrus.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Griggs was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Charles “Bud” in 1996; sister, Alice Hoelzer; brother, Edward VonSeggern, and twin sister, Laura Saunders.
Friends may call on Sunday, June 24, 2007, from 5 to 9 P.M. at the United Church of Huntington, 26677 State Route 58, Wellington. Funeral Services will be held at the church Monday at 11 A.M. with Rev. Steve Carmany officiating. Burial will follow in Huntington Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be given to the United Church of Huntington or to the Herrick Memorial Library, 101 Willard Memorial Square, Wellington OH, 44090.
