The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present. Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

Clifford E. Dennis, 85, of North Ridgeville died Monday at his son’s home following a long illness. He was born November 19, 1921 in Kansas City, MO and was an Elyria resident for most of his life. Mr. Dennis worked at the former Bendix-Westinghouse, in Elyria, as a machinist. He was a W.W. II U.S. Army Veteran, where he was a Corporal, serving with the HQ Co. 3rd. Battalion 504 Parachute Infantry 82nd Airborne Division in the European Theater. During the War, Mr. Dennis was captured and taken as a Prisoner of War. He was imprisoned at Stalag 3-C in Kirstine, Germany. Mr. Dennis was awarded the E.A.M.E. Theater Ribbon with 4 Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct Ribbon and the Distinguished Unit Citation Ltr AG 206 Hq 5th. Army. After being discharged from the Army, Mr. Dennis received his pilot’s license. He then spent over two years building his own experimental aircraft known as the “Breezy”. He was a member of the Elyria Chapter 255 for the Experimental Aircraft Association (E.A.A.). Mr. Dennis was also a member of the V.F.W. Post 1079 in Elyria and enjoyed bowling, tennis and roller skating.
Survivors include his sons, Carl Dennis of Elyria, Rick Dennis of North Ridgeville and Mark Dennis; four grand children; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine (nee-Chapman) in 1978; his parents, Charles and Maude (nee-Cross) Dennis; sisters, Esther Meinke and Eulala Dennis; and brothers, Charles, Samuel and Lawrence Dennis.
Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 8 P.M.. at the Bauer-Laubenthal Funeral Home, Chestnut Ridge Road at state Route 57, Elyria. Services will be Friday at 10 A.M. in the funeral home. The Rev. Alana Kelley from the Sheffield Lake United Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will follow in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the V.F.W. Post 1079, 500 South Abbe Road, Elyria, Ohio 44035.
