The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present. Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

Shirley Mae Riley, (nee Hruby), 70, of Oberlin died Wednesday at her home following a long illness. She was born July 24, 1936 in Elyria, and was an Elyria area resident for all her life. Mrs. Riley worked for the Empire Springs Co. in Elyria for 16 years, and also worked for Messaros Photography at the Lorain County Fair for 21 years. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, where she was active in the Women’s Guild, the Memorial Committee, and was a Sunday School Teacher. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, camping and snowmobiling.
Survivors include her husband of 37 years, Kenneth Gene Riley; daughters, Judith (Donald) Beckett of Grafton, Colleen Riley of Elyria and Debbie (Ed) Super of Lorain; a son, Robert Riley of Grafton; 10 grandchildren; and a brother, Louis "Guy" Hruby of Palm Beach, FL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis John and Pauline (nee-Kanac) Hruby; and a sister, Betty Laney.
Friends may call Friday from 4 to 7 P.M. at the Bauer-Laubenthal Funeral Home, Chestnut Ridge Road at State Route 57, Elyria. Services will be Saturday at 10 A.M. in the funeral home. The Rev. Allen Grothe, Pastor of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ will officiate. Private Burial will be in Ridgehill Memorial Park, Amherst. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 9715 East River Road, Elyria, Ohio 44035.
