The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present.  Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

Christine Gunn

Christine "Grand-mama" Gunn, 90, of Oberlin, passed away Monday in the Allen Medical Center of Oberlin following a long illness. She was born in Okolona, Mississippi, coming to Oberlin 48 years ago in 1960. Mrs. Gunn was a home maker and was also a cook. A member of Clark Missionary Baptist Church in Mississippi, Mrs. Gunn enjoyed watching her grandchildren and being with family and friends and she also enjoyed listening to music and dancing.
Mrs. Gunn is survived by her daughters, Annie Bell Fields and Mabel Dunn, both of Oberlin; 13 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 38 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Gunn Sr.; sons, James Gunn Jr. and Joe Louis Gunn; daughter, Pearl Hughes; 5 sisters and 2 brothers.
Friends may call Sunday, from 6 to 8 P.M. in the Carter Funeral Home Chapel of Elyria, where services will be held on Monday at Noon. District Elder Laurence E. Nevels, Pastor of Christ Temple Apostolic Church, Oberlin, will officiate. Burial to follow at Westwood Cemetery, Oberlin. Carter Funeral Homes, Inc., Elyria, is in charge of Funeral Arrangements.
