George J. Miller

George J. Miller, 74, of Elyria, died Monday, July 2, 2007 at EMH Regional Medical Center following a long illness. Mr. Miller was born on January 3, 1933 in Wilkensburg, PA and made his home in Elyria for most of his life.
He was a graduate of Elyria High School class of 1950 where he was a member of EHS Marching Band.
He retired from the U.S. Navy after 32 years of service. He was employed at the Chronicle Telegram as the Classified Advertising Manager for 28 years of service, retiring in 1988.
Mr. Miller was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, he was a past president of the USS Wisconsin Association, a past president of the Ohio Classified Association, a past president of the Mississippi Valley Classified Association, a member of the American Legion Post 12, a life member of the VFW Post 1079, and a member of the Alcoholics Anonymous for 25 years. Mr. Miller played the drums for Alex Visci Quartet for 28 years.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey (nee Tonry) to whom he had been married for 52 years; a son, Mark Miller of Pickerington; and a daughter, Lisa Ann Bischof of Chagrin Falls; four grandchildren, Alex and Zack Miller and Michael and Emily Bischof.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Emily (Spohn) Miller; and a sister, Catherine Horseman.
Friends will be received at the Reichlin Roberts Funeral Home, 327 Cleveland Street, Elyria, on Thursday from 4 to 7 P.M. where the American Legion will conduct a memorial service at 7 P.M.
Funeral services will be on Friday at 10:30 A.M. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 330 2nd Street, Elyria, with the Reverend Christina Kukuk, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Ridgehill Memorial Park, Amherst Township. The VFW Post 1079 will provide full military honors.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Kidney Foundation.
