Man charged with brutally murdering his mother

CLEVELAND — A 19-year-old man has been accused of beating his mother with a board and crowbar, stabbing her and then leaving her to die.
A Cuyahoga County grand jury on Tuesday charged Patrick Williams with aggravated murder, aggravated robbery, kidnapping, aggravated theft and tampering with evidence in the death of Patricia Williams over the Memorial Day weekend. Authorities are bringing him back from Atlanta where he was arrested last month. He could face a death sentence.
According to investigators, the two argued in a bedroom of Patricia Williams’ home, and Patrick Williams hit his mother in the head with a board and crowbar, according to investigators. He then poured cleaning fluid on her before dragging her or chasing her to the basement, where he gagged her, bound her to a chair, and stabbed and bludgeoned her, they said.
Patrick Williams told police he showered and returned to the basement and his mother still was alive. He slept and left the following day in his mother’s car.
She was found dead on June 6 by family members who went to the home looking for her.
County Prosecutor Bill Mason called Williams brutal and said he left his mother “to die a slow, agonizing death.”
“No punishment short of death fits this crime,” Mason said.
An arraignment is scheduled for July 17.
