The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present. Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

Raymond Albert Machovina, 68, a resident of Vermilion, passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2007, at Kingston of Vermilion Nursing Home following a ten month illness. He was born August 24, 1938 in North Ridgeville.
He was raised in North Ridgeville and graduated from North Ridgeville High School in the class of 1956. Raymond had made his home in Vermilion for the last three years.
Raymond served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was employed as a charge operator at the Poly One/BF Goodrich in Avon for 26 years before retiring in 1993. Raymond enjoyed golfing, traveling with his wife, family and friends, reading and sports.
Survivors include his wife, of 26 years, Bonnie Gay Machovina (nee Angle); his son, Stephen C. Machovina of Amherst; his daughter, Valorie Gill of Columbia Station; eight Grandchildren; his sisters, Arlene Myers of Wellington and Carol Urig of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Machovina and by his parents, Raymond Joseph and Elsie Rose Machovina (nee Douglass).
Friends may call Friday, July 6, 2007 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 7, 2007 at 1 P.M. from the funeral home. The Rev. William Mouer, pastor of Family Fellowship Foursquare in Amherst, will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made CHP Regional Foundation/New Life Hospice, 3700 Kolbe Rd., Lorain, OH 44053. Arrangements are being handled by the Hempel Funeral Home, Amherst.
