Amil P. Sposato, 94, of Lorain, died Thursday, July 5, 2007, at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain after a brief illness. He was born December 8, 1912, in Horning, PA and had resided in Lorain for the past 86 years. Amil retired from Master Manufacturing in Cleveland, where he worked as a superintendent. He then worked as a housing inspector for the Lorain County Metropolitan Housing Authority. Amil was a member of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain where he served as the first commentator at the 12  P.M. Mass and was one of the first lay ministers. He was a 50 year member and past president of the St. Peter Holy Name Society and was its Man of the Year in 1985. For several years he served as secretary of the Lorain County Deanery of Holy Name Societies.
Amil was a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus in Lorain. He enjoyed following and tracking the stock market, reading, walking in Lakeview Park, and spending time with his great-granddaughter. Amil enjoyed traveling and made several trips to Italy. He was proud of his Italian heritage and was fluent in the Italian language.
He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Jack (Patricia) Hemminger of Lorain; granddaughter, Mrs. Gary (Christy) Hemminger-Garbinski of Bay Village; and great-granddaughter, Halle Lee Garbinski of Bay Village. He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Lena L. Sposato (nee DeSantis) on October 13, 2006; parents, Antonio & Teresa Sposato (nee Salvagni); sisters, Fillie Bellinger, Jennie Curcio, Julia Ferchoni and Eva Gallo; and brothers, Ross Sposato, John Sposato, Ernie Sposato & Joe Sposato.
The family will receive friends Sunday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. at the Gluvna Shimo Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain, where the St. Peter Holy Name Society will pray the Rosary Sunday at 3 P.M. Funeral Services will be held Monday at 9:30 A.M. in the funeral chapel, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial, Monday at 10 A.M. at the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Charles Henkle, associate Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township. Online condolences may be made at www.gluvna.net.
