The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present. Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

Eleanor E. Ruffner (nee Trachsel), 91, of North Ridgeville, passed away Thursday, July 5, 2007 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain following a long illness. She was born March 23, 1916 in Salem Township, in the Upper Sandusky area, where she was raised and graduated from high school. She moved to Elyria in 1997 and later North Ridgeville, coming from Columbus. Eleanor began her career as a secretary for Bigelow Carpet in Columbus, later worked for Schorr, Kettner and Lane Furniture Store in Upper Arlington and then was employed as secretary to the State Architect of Ohio from 1970 until her retirement in 1980. She was a Life Member of the Ohio Order of the Eastern Star, Lorraine Chapter 1. She was also a member of the Lorain County Senior Citizens Organization. She attended the Avon Lake Presbyterian Church with her son and religious services at the Northridge Health Center where she resided in North Ridgeville. She was an avid sports fan, enjoyed crocheting and knitting, traveling, playing pinochle and her family.
Mrs. Ruffner is survived by her son, Jerald M. (Joan) of Avon; four grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a brother, Kail Trachsel of Nevada.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion S. (1979); four sisters; two brothers; and her parents.
Friends may call at the Busch Funeral Home, 32000 Detroit Rd. Avon, Monday, July 9 from 9 A.M. until time of services at 11 A.M. Rev. Thomas C. Robinson, of the Avon Lake Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Private family graveside services will take place at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Columbus. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be forwarded to New Life Hospice, in care of Community Health Partners Foundation, 3700 Kolbe Road, Lorain, OH 44053.
