The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present. Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

Mary L. "NaNee" DeFazio Szallay (nee Tolomeo), 93, of Elyria, died at the Bridge at Abbewood in Elyria on Friday July 6, 2007, following a short illness. Mrs. Szallay was born on March 20, 1914 in Ferrell, PA, and made her home in Elyria for most of her life. She was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters of America, and the American Legion Post 12 Auxiliary. She was employed at Bendix Westinghouse and retired in 1974. Mrs. Szallay enjoyed her home, cooking, and being with her family.
She is survived by three daughters, Barbara (Duane) Farrow Rush of LaGrange, Janet (Frank) Gidlin and Donna (Paul) Reichlin, both of Elyria. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Denise Farrow-Rago, Darrin Farrow, Frank Gidlin, Lesa Gidlin-Stafford, and Michelle Reichlin; six great-grandchildren, Christopher and Brandon Rago, Angela and Frankie Gidlin, Tricia Stafford and Morgan Farrow; Several nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Stella LoForte, Helen Vance and Rose Cerra; three brothers, Anthony, Vincent and John Tolomeo; and her parents, Louis and Mary (nee Zangari) Tolomeo.
Friends will be received at the Reichlin Roberts Funeral Home, 327 Cleveland Street, Elyria, on Sunday, July 8, 2007, from 5 to 9 P.M. Funeral Services have been tentatively scheduled for Monday, July 9, 2007, at 10:30 A.M. in the funeral home followed by Mass at 11 A.M. at St. Jude Catholic Church, 590 Poplar Street, Elyria.The Reverend Father Frank P. Kosem, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria.
