The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present.  Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

Richard M. Shuman

Richard M. "Mike" Shuman, 71, lifelong resident of Elyria, died July 8, 2007, at Community Health Partners, Lorain, after a short illness. He was born May 14, 1936 in Elyria. He worked for 23 years with the former G.M. Fisher Body, Elyria, retiring as supervisor when the plant closed in 1987. He also worked for Industrial Plastics, Valley City. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He enjoyed bowling, camping, softball, woodworking and ceramics and he entered some of his ceramic pieces for judging at the Lorain County Fair.
He is survived by sons, Austin M. Shuman, of Amherst; Shannon J. Shuman, of Kansas City, KS; one grandson; brothers, Leon G. and Alonzo W. Shuman, both of Elyria; and sister, Ruth Fyffe of Grafton.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Shuman in 2004; infant sons, Travis and Stanley; and parents Stewart L. Shuman in 1951 and Kathryn M. Fordyce in 2006.
Visitation will be Thursday from 1 P.M. till the time of Service at 2 P.M. at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria. Rev. Dianna True will officiate and burial will be in Fields Cemetery, N. Ridgeville. Memorials may be made to any Lorain National Bank where a fund is set up to benefit Austin M. Shuman.
