Richard Glen Smith, 84, of Elyria, passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2007, in the Cleveland Clinic after a short illness. He was born Friday, March 23, 1923, in LaGrange, living in the Lorain County area all his life. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WW II in Europe in the infantry. Mr. Smith was owner of LaGrange Screw Products for 30 years in LaGrange before retiring in 1992. He was a member and past president of Elyria Country Club.
Mr. Smith was a graduate of LaGrange High School and his love for sports started there. He was in the first class to be inducted into Keystone Hall of Fame, and followed all Keystone sports, including announcing Keystone Football games for over 30 years. Mr. Smith enjoyed all sports, including following his granddaughters high school through college sports careers. Being a contributor and sponsor of Keystone sports, he also sponsored and managed the nationally known LaGrange Screw Products Softball Team for 20 years.
He is survived by daughter, Shirley Jenkins of Amherst; son, Glen Smith of Medina; five grandchildren; 11 great- grandchildren; sister, Lois Younglas of Penfield; brother Robert Smith of LaGrange.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence & Leona Smith; brothers, George, Sherman, Albert, and Russell; sisters, Gladys, Thelma, and Katherine.
Friends may call at the Blackburn-Duke Funeral Home, 1021 Main St., Grafton, Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Funeral Services will be Monday, at 11 A.M. in the funeral home with Rev. Ralph Krall, pastor of LaGrange United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in River Road Cemetery, LaGrange Twp. The family suggest memorials be made to K.A.T.S., P.O.
