Lorain man shot to death

LORAIN — A 27-year-old Lorain man died after being shot twice in the chest by another man.
Gary Young Jr. of Hamilton Avenue was pronounced dead about 50 minutes after the shooting, which occurred about 4:40 p.m., county Coroner Paul Matus said.
“It may have had something to do with machismo or road rage,” Matus said.
Lorain police said they still were trying to sort out what happened as of Thursday night. Lorain Police Sgt. Steve Curry declined to discuss the shooting in any detail.
“It’s being investigated and we’re going through the facts of the case,” Curry said.
What is known is that the injured and bleeding Young was seen lying on the tree lawn at the southeast corner of Elyria Avenue and East 32nd Street.
Lorain Police Sgt. J.H. Jackson said a .38-caliber gun was recovered, and a man walking on nearby Caroline Avenue was picked up for questioning, although police would not say Thursday night whether any charges had been filed against him.
While police were at the scene, an unnamed man walked out of a nearby house and told Jackson that another man inside the home was connected to the incident because he had been jumped.
“He got beat up and he’s scared,” the man told Jackson.
Within a few minutes, police walked a man out of that home to a waiting police cruiser.
Neighbors said they heard men arguing shortly before the shots were fired. They said they then heard police cars screeching to a halt outside.
“The time between the time I heard the shots and when police arrived was no time at all,” said John Schmidt, who lives nearby.
