The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present.  Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

Helen Peabody Smith

Helen (nee Schultz) Peabody Smith, 90, of Wellington, died Saturday, July 28, 2007 at the Medina Village Retirement Center, after a five month illness. Mrs. Smith was born July 9, 1917, in Amherst, to the late John and Helen "Nell" (nee Burgess) Schultz. She lived in Elyria most of her life and later moved to the Wellington in the late 90′s to be near family. She was a charter member of St. Jude’s Church and a graduate of the Midyear 1936 Class of Elyria High School. After graduation, she was employed at General Industries and W.T. Grant Store. She retired from May Company in Sheffield in 1979. She was a volunteer at the Methodist Home and also as an aid with the kindergarten class at Ely School. She and her late husband, LeRoy Peabody, owned and operated Elyria Wholesale Bait Co. out of Elyria, Lorain, Huron, and Sandusky. In younger years, she enjoyed fishing in Northern, MI with her husband and friends, sewing dance costumes and doll clothes for her daughter and granddaughter. She loved playing and beating everyone in Scrabble or Boggle, and most of all spending time with her family whom she loved dearly.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Richard Brush of Wellington; a son and daughter-in-law, Garry and Sandra Peabody of Dellroy, five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; six step children; and several step grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy Peabody; and four half brothers, Merle, Art, Walter, and Alvin Franks.
Friends may call on Monday, July 30 from 6 to 8 P.M. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St., Wellington and on Tuesday, from 10 A.M. until the time of funeral service at 11 A.M. with Rev. James Reymann officiating. Burial
will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 512 N. Main St. Wellington, Ohio 44090. Online condolences may be made at www.norton-eastmanfuneralhome.com
