AVON — An Elyria man was killed Monday morning when he was struck by a tractor-trailer while walking along Interstate 90.
Jeffrey R. Lange, 22, of Elyria, was on foot near the eastbound lane when a semitrailer hauling vehicles struck him at 6:03 a.m.
Avon police were still investigating the incident Monday and did not say why Lange was walking near the interstate or whether a vehicle parked alongside the road nearby the accident scene belonged to him.
County Coroner Paul Matus said Lange’s body was located in the center lane of the three-lane interstate highway and that a preliminary investigation indicated he died instantly of multiple blunt-force traumas.
Charles Kent, of Huron, was driving the hauler just east of the Jaycox Road overpass when the accident occurred. No charges had been filed as of Monday.
Lange graduated from Elyria High School in 2003 and loved playing sports, according to family and friends gathered at the Lange house Monday.
“Whenever he was around, he would always make you laugh,” said Lange’s aunt, Deb Morales. “He loved being with friends and family. He was always happy.”
Lange was part of a local motorcycle riding club and enjoyed riding his silver and red Honda 600 motorbike, according to friends.
Russell Lange, Lange’s father, called his son a dependable person, and said watching him play baseball as a youth remains one of his fondest memories.
