The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present. Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

Mildred H. "Sis" Smith (nee: Dean), 84, of Elyria, died August 10, 2007 at EMH Regional Medical Center. She was born November 26, 1922 in Westlake, and has been a resident of Elyria since 1942. She was a member of St. Jude Church, Elyria, Elyria United Polish Club and the Red Hat Society. She had been an 18 year volunteer at EMH Regional Medical Center.
Mildred is survived by her sons, Scott Smith and Shawn Smith, both of Elyria; four grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and a brother, Harold Dean of Elyria.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alva L. Smith, in 1975; sons, Stephen Smith and Victor Kaczmarczyk.
A funeral mass will be Tuesday, 10 A.M. at St. Jude Church, 590 Poplar Street, Elyria. Rev. Frank P. Kosem will be the Celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria. Dicken Funeral Home, Elyria, is in charge of arrangements.
