Lorain man killed in crash

LORAIN — A Lorain man died in an automobile crash after losing control of his vehicle near Euclid Avenue and Lincoln Street early Saturday.

Richard L. Colon, 19, died from head and neck injuries sustained in the crash, County Coroner Paul Matus said.

Matus said the accident occurred about 3:35 a.m. Saturday. Colon was traveling alone in a Honda Civic on Euclid Avenue when he lost control while attempting a left turn on Lincoln Street. The car rolled several times, coming to rest on its top in a nearby yard.

Matus said Colon was thrown from the vehicle and pinned beneath the wreckage.

Assistant Fire Chief Randy Hupp said firefighters had to use an airbag system to lift the car and free Colon from under the wreckage.

At that time, the car was about 3 feet from a corner residence, coming to rest in a way that barely missed the house.

Authorities do not know if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the early morning crash. Matus said toxicology tests will be performed.
Lorain police continue to investigate the crash.

A man who answered Colon’s home telephone said family members were not ready to speak with the media.
