PGA: Sunday lowdown

SUNDAY AT THE PGA

Winner: Tiger Woods shot a 1-under 69 to finish at 8-under 272 and win his 13th major championship. For those keeping track, he’s now five shy of Jack Nicklaus’ record.
Thanks for playing: Woody Austin and Ernie Els made things interesting for a bit, but neither could keep it up. Austin (68) finished two strokes back at 274, and Els (66) was at 275.
Two in a row: Tiger Woods won his second straight PGA Championship title — for a second straight time. Woods also won the PGA in 1999 and 2000.
Big money: For his win, Tiger Woods got a check for $1.26 million.
Noteworthy: Woods is now 13-0 when taking at least a share of the lead into the final round of a major.
How hot was it? In a week of one steamy day after another, Sunday was the hottest. The mercury registered 102 degrees, but the humidity made it feel more like 110.
Nice consolation: By finishing second, Woody Austin vaulted into the top 10 in the Presidents Cup standings and earned a spot on the team for next month’s tournament in Montreal.
Quoteworthy: “It’s a feeling I’ve never had before, having Sam there and having Elin there. It feels a lot more special when you have your family there.” — Tiger Woods, on winning his first major since becoming a father.
Next year: The 2008 PGA Championship will be Aug. 7-10 at Oakland Hills in Bloomfield Township, Mich.
