Birdie M. Radyk (nee Killeen), 85, of Amherst Township, died Monday, August 13, 2007 at her residence surrounded by her loving family and her dear pet dog "Mollie". She was born in Cleveland and moved to Lorain as a child. Birdie was a 1940 graduate of Lorain High School. During World War II she supported the war effort by working at the Tank Plant in Cleveland where she built mine sweepers and later went on to help build aircraft. For 28 years she was employed by Lorain Products where she assembled phone switching gear, retiring in 1981.
Most important to Birdie was living with and spending time with her family. For many years, three generations of her family lived together and she played an active role in raising her grandchildren along with their parents. She enjoyed cooking meals for the family and would regularly take the grandchildren to the sports activities that they participated in. Most importantly, she taught her family to love and care for each other and show compassion towards others.
Birdie enjoyed playing card games and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Amherst. While her health permitted she was active in her parish community.
Survivors include her daughter, Judy (John) Fultz of Amherst Township; four grandchildren; Charles (Jennifer) Fultz of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Michael (Nicole) Fultz of Westlake, Rose (Rick) Axel of South Euclid, Mark (Sarah) Fultz of Lorain; 2 great-granddaughters, Autumn Rose Fultz of Lorain and Sophia Birdie Axel of South Euclid.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Koleno (1945); and parents, Joseph and Rose Kudlo Killeen.
The family will receive friends at the Garland-Misencik Funeral Home, 851 Park Avenue, Amherst, Friday 6 to 8 P.M. Closing prayers wll be at the funeral home 9:30 A.M. Saturday followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Amherst. Rev. Lawrence Martello, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
