Dorothy E. Guthman

Dorothy E. Guthman (nee Mates), 82, of Avon Lake passed away Tuesday, August 14, 2007 at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain following a short illness. She was born July 30, 1925 in Cleveland and moved to Avon Lake 57 years ago.
Dorothy was a graduate of John Marshall High School, Cleveland. Soon after graduation she was an entertainer and singer with the U.S.O.  Her friend played the accordion and they went by the name of “Dot and Lou.” She also worked as a dental assistant in the early 1950’s and later as a homemaker.

Mrs. Guthman was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Avon Lake and the Order of the Eastern Star, Day Chapter 479.  She enjoyed her family.

Mrs. Guthman is survived by her son, Dale A. (Bobbie S.) of Avon Lake; and a grandson, Joseph A.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer in 1978; and her parents, Joseph F. and Florence M. (nee Weber) Mates.
Friends may call at the Busch Funeral Home, 32000 Detroit Rd., Avon from 4 to 8 P.M. Thursday where the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 479 will conduct services at 7:30 P.M. Thursday evening. Friends may also call at the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 32747 Lake Rd. Avon Lake Friday, August 17 from 9:30 A.M. until services begin at 10 A.M. Rev. Lynn Schlessman, pastor of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church will officiate. Interment will follow at Lakewood Park Cemetery.
