NE Ohio vets hold 4th Honor Flight

ELYRIA — Norm Heldt, longtime spokesman for Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1079 in Elyria, will be among those on an all-expenses-paid Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., today to see the major monuments, including the World War II Memorial.
This is the fourth trip for the World War II veterans, sponsored by Honor Flight Cleveland, said Gene O’Quinn of Elyria, who chairs the board.

It costs about $10,000 for each plane, which carries 42 veterans and 14 guardians. Meals are provided, and the trip takes a day.
No money is accepted from World War II veterans for the nonprofit program, but others can donate by sending a check to O’Quinn in care of VFW Post 1079, 500 S. Abbe Road, Elyria, OH 44035. You also can donate at the Charter One Bank Web site or at www.honor flight.org.

Anyone seeking to be part of future Honor Flights can call the post at (440) 365-8500 for information.
