The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present. Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

Florian V. Kovacs, 90, of Elyria died Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at the Center Ridge Health Campus in North Ridgeville following a brief illness. He was born November 8, 1916 in Twin Rocks, PA and was an Elyria resident since 1950, coming from Lorain.
Mr. Kovacs worked for the Ford Motor Co. in Lorain for 20 years, retiring as a maintenance supervisor in 1978.
He served with the Merchant Marines during WW II.
He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Elyria, and the Holy Name Society of the church.
He was also a member of the Elyria Knights of Columbus Council 774, the Lt. Francis McManus 4th Degree of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 12 in Elyria and the Elyria Senior Fellowship.
He enjoyed bowling and playing golf.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Helen (nee Kish); daughter, Lorraine “Peachy” (husband, William) Watters of Las Vegas, NV; son, Phil (wife, Stephanie) Kovacs of Elyria; two grandchildren, William Watters of North Olmsted and Terri Watters of Huntersville, NC; great-granddaughter, Eryn Watters.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Sr. Marian Kovacs, D.D.R., Margaret Kovacs, Anna Kovacs, and Victoria Duda; and a brother, George Kovacs.
Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 5 P.M. at the Bauer-Laubenthal Funeral Home, Chestnut Ridge Rd. at State Route 57, Elyria.
Services will be Monday at 9:30 A.M. in the funeral home, followed by mass at 10 A.M. at St. Jude Catholic Church, 590 Poplar St., Elyria. The Rev. Frank P. Kosem, Pastor will be the Celebrant. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
Memorial contributions can be made to the St. Jude Church building fund.
