Donald B. Layport, 72, of Elyria, passed away Friday afternoon, August 17, 2007 at his sister’s home following a short illness. He was born September 6, 1934 in Oberlin and had moved back to Lorain County in the early 1990’s from PA.
Donald served in the US Air Force from 1956-58 and remained in the Reserves until 1962. He was retired as a laborer in factory work in PA. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, playing cards, was a Cleveland Browns fan, wrestling, working on cars and had a great love for dogs.
He is survived by his children, sons, Donald B. Layport, Jr. of Philidelphia, PA, Allen S. Layport of Fairless Hills, PA, Timothy Layport of Morrisville, PA; and daughter Irene M. Bedekovich of Smithville, PA; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildrren; five sisters, Marie Sugaski of Norwalk, Dorothy Karwatski of Grafton, Leona “Jeanie” Gunter of Sullivan, Beverly Spear of Elyria, and Patricia Pugh of Elyria, who was also his caretaker.
He was preceded in death by a son, William Layport; three brothers, William, Ralph and Howard Layport; a sister, Viola M. “Tootie” Gemae; and his parents, Orville and Elsie Layport (nee Tolhurst).
Funeral services will be at Midway Baptist Church, 41812 Griswold Road, Elyria on Tuesday, August 21 at 10 A.M. Rev. Chuck Keesee, Pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will be at Westwood Cemetery in Oberlin, where military honors will be performed.
