Michael Allen "Mike" Ball, 53, of Southfield, MI, and formerly of Elyria, OH, passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2007 following a sudden illness. He was born in Elyria, on February 22, 1954, becoming a graduate of Elyria High School, class of 1972, and a graduate of Control Data, of Cleveland, and also attended Lorain County Community College, and was enrolled at Macomb Community College in Macomb, MI.
He was a computer engineer for NCR Inc., and a former employee of IBM, Cleveland for 25 years, and Southfield, MI, and had been employed in the Communication Division for the city of Elyria. He was a member of Jones Chapel AME Church of Elyria, where he sang in the youth choir and was a Sunday school member. He was also a coach for the city at Southfield Park and Recreation Center, and a Troop Den Leader for Bobcat # 209 in Southfield, MI. He was also an avid sports fan who enjoyed computer games, reading and specializing in grilling.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Bertha Ball (nee Butler) of Southfield, MI; daughter, Ashley Nicole Ball of Southfield, MI; son, Michael Jason Ball of Orlando, FL; mother, Mary J. Ball of Elyria; brothers, James S. Ball Jr. ( Rikki) of Parma, Tony Ball ( Valerie ) of Elyria; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, James S. Ball Sr; paternal grandparents, Annabelle Ball and John Stanley Ball; maternal grandparents, Parker and Cue Allen
Friends may call Tuesday at 11 A.M. until time of service at 12 noon in the Jones Chapel AME Church, 343 17th Street, Elyria, where the Rev. Gary Hearst, Pastor and Rev. Dixie Smith, Assistant Pastor will officiate. Burial to follow at Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria. Carter Funeral Homes, Inc., Elyria, are in charge of Funeral Arrangements.
