Easter Seals offices join up

Easter Seals will combine its offices in northern Ohio to provide a network of services throughout the entire region.

Easter Seals Northwestern and Easter Seals Northeast will join forces to form Easter Seals Northern Ohio on Sept. 1.

The national organization, which helps disabled adults and children, was founded in Elyria in 1919.

A total of 10 offices throughout 27 counties will combine, pooling their resources and collaborating on expanding new services for local adults and children with disabilities.

There will be no changes to staff or office locations, and all Easter Seals clients will continue to receive services at their present location, said Sheila Dunn, who currently serves as CEO of Easter Seals Northeast Ohio and will become CEO of the new regional organization.

“We looked at how we can use our dollars better and be more efficient,” she said. “It’s something we’ve been looking at from a streamline point of view.”

In addition to providing adult day care, the organization plans on increasing its senior home health care program and in-home care services for people with developmental disabilities.

Dunn said the organization is still financially viable and that the changes aren’t representative of any money woes.

“We’re just tightening the hatches,” she said.
