Juanita Barnes (nee Bowers), 70, of Lorain, formerly of Avon Lake, passed away of cancer, Friday, August 24, 2007 at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center, Lorain. Mrs. Barnes was born, December 9, 1936 in Elba, AL and had lived in Avon Lake since 1955.
Mrs. Barnes was valedictorian of her 1955 Enterprise Alabama High School class. She was a founding member of Calvary Baptist Church in Avon Lake and worked for a number of years as a bookkeeper for Clovervale Foods in Lorain.
She enjoyed crocheting, sewing and travel.
Mrs. Barnes is survived by three sons, Donald Barnes (Kathy) of Kalamazoo, MI, David Barnes of Lorain, and Douglas Barnes of Clarksfield. Other survivors include a granddaughter, Joanna Barnes; four sisters, Joann Shaw (Charles) of Gulfport, MS, Frances Sandak of Lorain, Peggy Doxey (Mark) of Troy, and Monie Neal (David) of Tampa, FL; three brothers, Harold Bowers (Linda) of Lawrenceville, GA, Jimmy Bowers (Joyce) of Avon Lake, and Johnny Bowers (Shirlee) of Kokomo, IN.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Donald A. Barnes (2001); and her parents, Virgil N. and Irene K. (nee Kelley) Bowers, II.
Friends may call at the Busch Funeral Home, 163 Avon Belden Rd., Avon Lake, Wednesday, August 29th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. The Funeral Service will be at the Funeral Home, Thursday, August 30th at 11 A.M. Mrs. Barnes’ son, Pastor Donald Barnes of the Galesburg Baptist Church, Galesburg, MI, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Clarksfield Cemetery, Clarksfield.
