The Lorain County General Health District's Vital Statistics Office houses the birth and death records beginning in 1908 to the present. Certificates of births and deaths occurring in all of Lorain County, except for the city of Lorain, are available at the health district.

Clyde K. Ryan, 86, of Elyria, died Monday, August 27, 2007, at EMH Regional Medical Center after a sudden illness.
He was born July 27, 1921 in Danville, Pa., and had lived most of his life in Elyria.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, who served in England during WW II. He graduated from Elyria High School in 1939. Mr. Ryan worked in the shipping department at Ohio Screw Products in Elyria for more than 40 years before retiring.
He enjoyed riding his bicycle and playing horse shoes. In his younger years, he competed statewide in horseshoe competitions. He attended Abbe Road Baptist Church, Elyria.
He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Dorothy J. (nee Burnes) Ryan; sons, David of Seattle, Wash., Bruce of Shoreline, Wash., Barry of Colorado Springs, Colo.; daughters, Susan Galliford of Kempton, Pa. and Ellen Griffin of Quakerstown, Pa.; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are step-daughters, Darlene Handyside and Jeanne Dicken, both of Elyria; stepson, Richard Willoughby of San Antonio, Texas; seven step-grandchildren, 14 great stepgrandchildren; and three great great stepgrandchildren; sister, Ethel Chamberlain of Collinsville, Ill.; and brother, Walter Ryan of Elyria.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Harriett May Ryan in 1996; and his parents, Albert and Ida May Ryan.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 30, 2007, in Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria, and Friday, August 31, 2007, from 10 a.m. untill the time of service at 11 a.m. at Abbe Road Baptist Church, 670 N. Abbe Road, Elyria.
Pastor Carmen Muoio will officiate and burial is in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
